Presenter: Don Mills, Chairman & CEO of Corporate Research Associates
As Chairman & CEO, and Co-founder of Corporate Research Associates, Don is one of Canada’s leading public opinion and market research professionals with over 40 years in the industry.
He is a qualified expert witness in the field of public opinion and market research and has appeared before numerous boards, commissions and judicial courts, including the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. Don is frequently a guest commentator on radio and television on public opinion issues.
Actively involved in the research industry he was the founding President of the Marketing Research & Intelligence Association (MRIA) and was Past President of the Canadian Association of Marketing Research Organizations (CAMRO). Currently he is Chair of the MRIA Government Relations Committee. Don is a Certified Marketing Research Professional (CMRP) and was named Fellow of the Marketing Research Association of Canada (FMRIA) in 2008, the highest honor the MRIA can bestow on one of its members.
Don has been active in the community throughout his career and has served on a variety of Boards including the Halifax International Airport Authority (founding Board Member), the YMCA (Past Chair), Dalhousie University, the Halifax Chamber of Commerce (Founding President), the Greater Halifax Partnership (Past Chair), Ashburn Golf Club, the United Way, the Canadian Parents for French, the Help Line, and the Arthritis Society (Past Chair). He is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Laing House Foundation; a member of the Laing House Association Board of Directors; Chair of the Board of the Halifax Hurricanes, an NBL professional basketball team; Past Chair of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame and Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS); member of the Board of Trustees of the IWK Foundation and the YMCA; as well as member of the Board of Directors for Total Marketing and Communications Ltd. (Bermuda).
Don was inducted into the Atlantic Business Magazine Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 2005. As well he was selected 2001 Business Person of the Year in Metro Halifax by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce and was runner-up in 2006. In 2008, Don was named Fellow of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association of Canada (FMRIA) and received the Bishop’s University Award of Merit in 2009, one of only 20 to ever receive this award at that time.
Corporate Research Associates has been named eight times as one of The Best Places to Work in Atlantic Canada by Progress including 2015. CRA has also received the 2011 Psychologically Health Workplace Award for Excellence in Employee Involvement and Communication presented by the American Psychological Association, the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s University, and the CN Centre for Occupational Health & Safety.
