Small businesses may not always be aware of their obligations under Canada’s federal private sector privacy law or all of the key steps to protecting the privacy of customers – putting them at risk of non-compliance and data breaches. Meanwhile, consumers are increasingly concerned with how businesses are safeguarding their information – research shows Canadians are less likely now to believe that businesses are taking their privacy obligations seriously than they were nine years ago.
