Presented by Nicole Smith Conflict Management
Difficult conversations happen all the time in the workplace.
Though most people don’t realize it, the effectiveness of our difficult conversations is impacted as much by our own internal thoughts and reactions as by the other person’s comments and behaviour.
Understanding and managing our internal thoughts and reactions can help us to stay calm before and during a difficult conversation, to express ourselves more clearly and fully and to listen more effectively to the other person.
In this session, participants will be introduced to the idea that our internal thoughts and reactions get in our way during difficult conversations. They will be taught the three main reasons we are triggered during a difficult conversation and the role assumptions and emotions (expressed and unexpressed) play in our internal reactions. They will learn how to self-reflect on these elements in a methodical way to prepare in advance to have better, more effective difficult conversations.
