2019-09-10 - Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Awards Annual Scholarship

10 September 2019 – For Immediate Release

FREDERICTON, NB – The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce has awarded its post-secondary scholarships to Samantha Gray and Katie Hamill. Both are Fredericton natives and undergraduate recipients planning to pursue graduate studies in the fall.

Applicants must be a full or part time employee of a member in good standing of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, OR be the child, spouse or partner of a member or their employee. Samantha is an employee of Stiletto Consulting and Katie works at The 11th Mile.

Samantha graduated from UNB in 2018 with a 4.0 GPA and is now enrolled to begin law school at Dalhousie University in September. While maintaining a high level of academic excellence, Samantha has also been a dedicated volunteer in a variety of areas including the York Care Centre, local rotary clubs and the chamber itself.

Katie completed a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Human Rights from St. Thomas University in 2015, a Master’s degree in International Development from Dalhousie University and is starting her PhD at UNB at the faculty of Education in September in order to put her human rights knowledge and experience to practical use in the education system.

Administered by the Fredericton Community Foundation, recipients of the scholarship are selected by a panel of Fredericton chamber past-presidents.

“Awarding our post-secondary scholarship is one of the highlights on the year for me, our group of past presidents selection committee and our whole chamber,” added Krista Ross, chamber CEO. “This year we were pleased to be able to award two scholarships and help both of these deserving students.”

The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship was created in 2013 to recognize a deserving student who has made a significant positive contribution to the betterment of their school and / or community at the same time has demonstrated sound academic achievement. The fund is held and managed by the Fredericton Community Foundation.

The scholarship recipients were announced at the chamber’s annual golf tournament in August.
