2024 Parliamentary Breakfast with Jenica Atwin, Member of Parliament
The Fredericton Chamber of Commerce and Platinum Sponsor, the Fredericton International Airport, is hosting guest speaker, Jenica Atwin, Member of Parliament for Fredericton and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous Services Parliamentary Breakfast on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Learn about initiatives being undertaken by the Government of Canada that affect the business community. Ms. Atwin will address the major issues concerning Fredericton and New Brunswick and will speak to what we can expect in the future from the federal government.
Biography:
Jenica Atwin was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Fredericton-Oromocto in
2019 and became the first woman to hold this title. She uses her voice in the House of
Commons to represent our community and defend our interests.
She grew up in and around Oromocto and Fredericton. She completed her master’s
degree in history at UNB, while working full time as a teacher. It was during this time that
she and her husband had their two sons.
In 2023, she was named Chair of the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern
Affairs, she is also a member of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of
Regulations and Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament.
She proudly sponsored bill S-219, An Act Respecting a National Ribbon Skirt Day, which
received royal assent in December of 2022 and presented Private Members Bill to ban
the use of Glyphosate.
On September 18, 2023, she was officially sworn in as the Parliamentary Secretary for
Indigenous Services. In her words:
“I dreamed of having the chance to make meaningful change on a systemic level and to
have the voices of indigenous leadership from our territory heard on the national stage. I
am beyond grateful to be able to join the team at Indigenous Services Canada to keep
moving forward on realizing true reconciliation.”
Jenica is passionate about addressing the climate and affordability crisis, improving the
quality of our health system and fighting for social justice; every day she focuses her work
on making our community a better place for all.
