Presentation Day - A/V Nackawic: A Re-Invention of NB's Forestry Industry
The forest resources of New Brunswick continue to be a key driver of the provinces economy. The forest products industry has faced a number of challenges over the years but it continues to evolve and re-invent itself. The Nackawic Pulpmill is just one example of how the industry has re-invented itself to produce a new product and target new markets.
Presenter: Alan Hitzroth
Alan is the President and CEO of the AV Group, a subsidiary of Aditya Birla, a large multinational conglomerate based in India. Alan started in his current role in April 2012, and is responsible for the operation of two dissolving pulp mills located in New Brunswick at Nackawic and Atholville. Alan obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary and has over 28 years’ experience working in the pulp industry in Canada. He has worked at pulpmills in Alberta, B.C. and Northern Ontario. Alan also has a diploma in Civil Engineering technology and prior to going back to university to obtain his degree in Chemical Engineering he worked for Esso Resources in Alberta. Alan also spent two years working in the steel industry in his home town of Hamilton Ontario after graduating from high school.
