2018-06-19 - Fredericton Chamber Welcomes Ryan Boyer as President
FREDERICTON, NB – Today at its 2018 annual general meeting, the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce welcomed Ryan Boyer of Cain Boyer Benefits Group as its board of directors president for 2018-2019, taking over the role from Keir Clark of Scotia Wealth Management. Keir moves into the past president role for a one-year term. With his outgoing remarks, Keir spoke about what he saw as priorities during his year as president. These included increasing board and member engagement; the importance of the business community being focused on the big picture; and holding government to account for decisions that could negatively affect future generations.
Ryan, a Fredericton native, has been a board member at the chamber since 2014. During that time, he has chaired many chamber committees including the Policy Development Committee, Provincial Government Affairs Committee, Municipal Government Affairs Committee and the Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee. He is a former member of the York Sunbury Search and Rescue Team and past director with the Fredericton Community Foundation, Fredericton Executive Association, and Falls Brook Centre.
“Having been a board member for five years, I’ve had the benefit of working with and learning from a variety of business leaders in Fredericton,” said Boyer. “There are a great number of issues currently facing business in Fredericton and I hope the chamber can continue to advocate for our member businesses and the community generally.”
“Ryan’s years of experience on our board and his dedication to his responsibilities will be fully utilized immediately with the State of the City Address scheduled for Thursday, June 21 and the chamber’s pre-election activities in full-swing,” said Krista Ross, Fredericton chamber CEO. “Our organization is extremely lucky to attract such high-quality, successful individuals that are willing to give their time for the greater good.”
“Being president of the Fredericton chamber is a very busy volunteer role – but that is part of the appeal,” Boyer added. “With a large and diverse membership, a full slate of events and advocacy priorities at all three levels of government, there is always something new and interesting happening at the chamber.”
The chamber board also had a number of incoming board members confirmed, replacing members that completed a two-year term.
The newest members of the chamber board are: Adam Peabody, Ignite Fredericton; Lori Clarke, Lori Clarke Interiors; Kim Nash-McKinley, Saint Mary’s First Nation; Lori Stickles, LuminUltra Technologies Ltd.; Mike Melvin, McInnes Cooper; Mark MacKenzie, Green Imaging Technologies Inc.; and Dhirenda Shukla, University of New Brunswick.
The outgoing board members in 2017 are: Paul Simmonds, Robert Simmonds Clothing; Danielle Harding, Stewart McKelvey; Erin Flood, the Go Do Project; Mark Scaplen, Dillon Consulting; Sheri McKillop, University of Fredericton; Dan Myers, Crowne Plaza Fredericton; and Ali Reid, Fredericton Animal Hospital.
